Cutting
From each of your metallic Christmas Fabrics:
- Cut 2 - 7 3/4 x 7 3/4 inch squares
- Cut 8 - 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 inch squares
From the main white fabric:
- Cut 16 - 8.5 x 8.5 inch blocks
- Cut 65 - 4 1/4 inch squares
Step 1: Making Four-Ways Flying Geese - You will need one 8.5 x 8.5 inch square and four 4 3/4 inch blocks from your metallic Christmas fabrics. Using a fabric marker, draw a diagonal line on the back of each of your 4 3/4 inch blocks. This will be your guide for sewing.
Step 2 - Lay two of your 4 3/4 inch blocks diagonally across your 8.5-inch block. Sew 1/4 inch on either side of the marked piece of fabric.
Step 3 - Once sewn, cut along the marked diagonal line.
Step 4 - Press the fabric open. See diagram below.
Step 5 - Place your next square on the remaining corner of your white fabric and sew 1/4 inch on either side of this as well.
Step 6 - Cut along the diagonal line once more and press your flying geese open. You should now have four complete flying geese.
Step 7 - Sew two flying geese to either side of your 7 3/4 inch block
Step 8 - Sew a 4 1/4 inch square to either side of the other 2 flying geese. Join them all together to complete the block.
Step 9 - Complete all 16 blocks this way.
Step 10 - Once all of the blocks are complete, sew them all together to form the full quilt top.
Step 11 - Once the quilt top is fully assembled, begin cutting out your raw edge applique stars to place
in between the larger white squares.
Step 12 - Sandwich and quilt.
