CHRISTMAS GARLAND

Christmas Garland Project

LEVEL: EASY

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Wooden curtain rings x 8
  • 50cm Christmas fabrics x 8
  • 5m x 11mm natural rope
  • 1 packet JF twine thread beige 5m
  • 50cm Eucalyptus flower spray x 4
  • Clear or white glitter glue
  • Wire cutters
  • Hot glue gun and glue stick refillst

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1 - Cut the 11mm natural rope into 3 x 1.5m lengths. Sticky tape the ends to prevent unravelling.

Step 2 - Cut 2 x 30cm pieces of the twine thread. Using one piece of twine, tie the 3 pieces together by wrapping the twine securely around 5cm from one end. Make a loop here to hang the garland by later.

Step 3 - Plait the 3 ropes together fairly tightly and at the end, take the 2nd piece of cut twine and tie the ends together as before. Make a loop here also for hanging the garland.

Step 4 - Cut a 4cm wide bias strip from each of the Christmas fabrics - take the bottom right corner of the fabric and place it along the top edge of the fabric towards the middle to make a triangle; cut along the diagonal line (bias); Cut again 4cm away from this cut line to make the 4cm wide bias strip.

Step 5 - Iron a 6mm hem on each long side of the bias strip, then fold the strip in half lengthwise and press. Trim one end of your strip so that it has a straight edge. Repeat for each bias strip.

Step 6 - With the hot glue gun, glue the straight end of the bias strip to the back of the curtain ring. Tightly wrap the bias thread around the ring going through the middle of the ring each time. When finished, trim the end of the strip and glue in place. Repeat for each ring.

Step 7 - Cut the leftover twine into 8 equal parts. Attach a piece of twine to the metal hook of each curtain ring - fold the piece of twine in half, poke the loop through the metal ring, then pull the ends of the twine through the loop and pull tight. Tie a knot 10cm from the metal ring. Repeat for each ring.

Step 8 - Take the rope plait, measure the length, and find the midpoint. Mark with a pin. Place a pin 5cm away from each side of the midpoint, then remove the midpoint pin. Mark 10cm away from each pin until you have 8 pins equally spaced along the plaited rope. Tie a curtain ring to each marked spot by wrapping the twine repeatedly around the rope. Knot in place.

Step 9 - Using the wire cutters, clip the flower sprays into 20-25cm pieces. Poke the ends through the plaited rope and hot glue in place at the back of the rope plait.

Step 10 - Place spots of glitter glue onto the ends of the gumnut blossoms. Allow to dry.
