WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• Cotton duck fabric for main shell & straps of bag.
• Lining fabric
• Magnet button
• Strap buckles
• D-Rings x2
• Matching thread
• Scissors

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1 - First cut the panels as per required size keeping 5cm stitching margin as below.

- Cut 1 panel of 38cm wide & 31cm long in leaf flap shape from duck fabric.

- Cut 1 panel of 38cm wide & 31cm long in leaf flap shape from lining fabric (can be voile or similar fabric).

- Cut 2 panels of 34cm wide & 29cm long in from duck fabric.

- Cut 2 panels of 34 cm wide & 29cm long in from inner lining fabric (can be voile or similar fabric).

- Cut 1 panel of 12cm x 85cm from duck fabric for gusset.

- Cut 1 panel of 12cm x 85cm from inner lining fabric for gusset.

- Cut 1 panel of 9cm x 120cm from duck fabric for Strap.

- Cut 2 panels of 8cm x 7cm from the duck fabric for strap loop.

Step 2 - To create the shell of the bag take gusset piece and pin both the front and back panels of (34x29cm) duck fabric to the gusset in duck fabric (10cmx85cm) with right sides together. Stitch together with a 1cm seam allowance around the 3 sides keeping one side open as the mouth of bag.

Step 3 - Repeat the step-2 with lining fabric to make the lining shell. Turn the lining shell so the right side of fabric is on the inside and then place this inside the duck fabric shell so both the wrong sides of the shells are facing together. Turn the tops of both shells in 1 cm and pin in place. Top stitch the lining and main together around the top edges of the bag shell with a 0.5cm seam allowance to create finished hem of bag.

Step 4 - To create the leaf shaped flap for the bag, take both the main and lining fabrics are pin with right sides together. Sew around the edges of the leaf shape with a 0.5cm seam allowance leaving the straight edge unsewn. Turn through the fabric to the right side and use something pointy like I pencil or knitting needle to push through the points of the leaf shapes. Then pin the straight edge of the leaf to the top of the back panel and sew together with a 1cm seam allowance. To hide the raw edge of the leaf panel fold the lid back over and topstitch onto the back panel covering the original stitching line.

Step 5 - Now attached magnet buttons, one part on the outside of front panel & second part on the front flap panel on inside.

Step 6 - To make the 3cm wide straps, trifold strap panels of 9x120cm from length side and top stitch down both sides with a 0.5cm seam allowance.

Step 7 - Take the 16cm x 7cm panels, fold in half lengthways with right sides together and sew the side seams with a 1cm seam allowance leaving the top open. Trim the corner points in the seam allowance to allow for a neat corner. Turn fabric right side out, and ensure corners are pushed through.Press with the iron then pin the bottom finished edge to the gusset of the bag and loop the unfinished edge through the D ring and fold back under itself about 2cm. Pin in place, then top stitch around the entire piece down with a 0.5cm seam allowance. Repeat on the other side and both your D rings are now secured in place.

Step 8 -Put buckle through the strap as per instructions on packaging and thread the ends through the D ring at the gussets and top stitch in place. Your bag is ready now.
