2nd row and foll alt rows - Purl.

Work rows 3 to 15 in lace patt as given for Back as placed in last 2 rows, working extra sts into patt as they become available AT SAME TIME inc one st at each end of next row then every foll alt row until there are 43 (45-47-49) sts, then in every foll 4th row once ... 45 (47-49-51) sts.

Working in stocking st for rem, inc one st at each end of next row then every foll 4th row until there are 49 (53-57-63) sts.

SHAPE TOP

Cast off 6 (6-6-7) sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 5 (6-7-7) sts at beg of foll 2 rows.

Cast off rem 15 (17-19-21) sts.

NECKBAND

Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. With RS facing, using a pair of 3.00mm, beg at right front edge, knit up 24 (26-28-30) sts evenly along right front neck shaping to shoulder seam, knit across 23 (25-27-29) sts from back neck stitch-holder, then knit up 24 (26-28-30) sts evenly along left front neck shaping to left front edge ... 71 (77-83-89) sts.

1st row (WS) - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Last row forms moss st.

Work a further 6 rows moss st.

Cast off loosely in moss st.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Tie coloured thread 8 (9-10-11) cm down from shoulder seams on side edges of back and fronts to mark armholes. Placing centre of sleeve to shoulder seam, sew in sleeves evenly between markers. Join side and sleeve seams. Using 2.50mm crochet hook, make a chain 2cm long make a loop and attach to right side of neckband. Sew button onto left side of neckband to match button loop. Sew in ends.

BONNETT

Using 3.00mm needles, cast on 103 (127) sts.

1st row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Last row forms moss st.

Work a further 7 rows moss st.

Work 2 rows stocking st.

BEG LACE PATT

1st row - K3, * yfwd, sl 1, K1, psso, K6, rep from * to last 4 sts, yfwd, sl 1, K1, psso, K2.

2nd row and foll alt rows - Purl.

3rd row - * K9 (12), K2tog, rep from * to end ... 80 (104) sts.

Cont dec in this manner, in foll alt rows until the row * K2, K2tog, rep from * to end has been worked ... 24 sts.

Break off yarn, thread through rem 24 sts, draw up and fasten off securely.

STRAP

Using 3.00mm needles, cast on 19 sts.

1st row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Last row forms moss st.

Rep last row 4 times.

Next row (buttonhole) - Moss 3, yfwd, K2tog, moss to end.

Rep 1st row twice.

Cast off loosely in moss st.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Join back head seam from beg of shaping to end. Attach strap to left side of bonnet (as pictured). Sew button onto right side of bonnet (as pictured). Sew in ends.
