The advantages of wool

Given wool has been used in rugs for hundreds of years, you could say that wool rugs have stood the test of time. This means, if you choose wool, you're likely to pay a bit more but the extra cost will be returned in longevity. If you're thinking you'd like to change your rug with trends, then you might opt for a synthetic rug as the more economical option.

Texture

Wool rugs have a more organic texture, similar to other natural fibres, like cotton and jute, whereas man-made fibres feel smoother and even artificial in their 'perfection'. Think about the texture you prefer and what works in terms of its placement in the home.

Durability

Wool definitely has the edge on synthetic fibres when it comes to durability. If you have a home with kids and pets, a wool rug is less likely to show dirt, dust and animal dander. But a synthetic rug can usually be washed in your washing machine, which will shrink and ruin a wool rug.

Climate

Synthetic fibres work better in colder climates, while wool can't tolerate the extreme cold. During summer or hotter weather, wool helps regulate the environment in your home, keeping it comfortable.

Cost
