How To Look After Your New Artificial Flowers?

Now that you have found a nice selection of artificial flowers in our range, you will be able to enjoy them for a long time to come. Of course, even though they are artificial, these flowers can certainly benefit from correct use and dedicated maintenance. Even though they do not require the care of real flowers, doing some minor maintenance tasks can increase their lifespan even more!

How Do I Clean Silk Artificial Flowers?

Silk artificial flowers have increase in popularity because of their natural look. Of course, there are ways to look after these flowers and increase their lifespan dramatically. So, if you want to get the most from these silk options, be sure to check out our cleaning recommendations below.

Dusting: While you do not need to dust these flowers every day, a quick dust every two weeks can do wonders for the look of your silk flowers. Since silk flowers can withstand quite a bit of punishment, you can use a hair dryer on a low heat setting to blow the dust away. You could also use a microfibre cloth to wipe the dust away gently. Still, if you keep to a regular schedule, there won't be much dust to remove.

Silk flower cleaning spray: Yes, there is such a thing as silk flower cleaning spray. As the popularity of these artificial flowers increase, so do the convenient cleaning products that are available for them. That being said, they can be a little pricey, so we recommend using a dedicated product only when your flowers have lots a little of their lustre.

Water and vinegar: If you want to give your silk flowers a decent clean, but you don't want to invest in an expensive cleaner, you could use a combination of vinegar and water too. Simply add equal amounts of water and vinegar to a spray bottle and then spray the silk surface of the flower. Then, leave the flowers to air dry.

Naturally, not everyone likes the smell that a vinegar cleaning solution leaves behind. If this is the case for you, you can also use a combination of soap and water. Once again, you should leave the flower to air dry.

When cleaning with a water solution, always take a look at the wrapping at the stem. If the wrapping looks like a hand wrap, water could dislodge the wrap. So, it is better to use the alternative cleaning methods.

How Do I Clean Plastic Flowers?

Like silk flowers, there are many ways to clean your plastic flowers. Here are some of the most popular methods today.

Dusting: Plastic is an incredibly sturdy material, so you can easily dust it with some vigour. The most effective method is still the microfibre cloth, but a hair dryer and some compressed air in a can will do a wonderful job too.

Lemon juice: Lemon juice can be remarkably effective to clean plastic flowers. However, we only recommend this method when plastic flowers are covered in dirt and grime, something that cannot easily be removed with a simple microfibre cloth. If you wish to remove some persistent dirt, simply add some lemon juice to a spray bottle and then spray some on it. Leave it for a little bit and then rinse the plastic flower with some cold water.

Glass cleaner: Another remarkable cleaning solution for plastic flowers is glass cleaner. Simply spray some on the plastic flower and leave them to air dry. In some cases, glass cleaner can even restore the colours of the flower and make them more vibrant.

Metal Flower Cleaning

While most artificial flowers these days are made with plastic and silk, some are made from metal. These ornaments also require some dedicated care. Fortunately, cleaning methods are quite straightforward.

You can provide regular maintenance with a gentle mixture of milk and water. Add 1/3 water and 2/3 milk. Then, simply apply with a microfibre cloth and dry afterwards. If there is some rust on the metal flowers, remove the rust with a wire brush. You can also use a rust converter spray, which enables you to paint over the affected earlier. Just be sure to read the instructions carefully before use.
