Can you tell me more about the different types of embossing?

Heat embossing is one of the most common methods, and it creates a beautiful raised pattern through the use of embossing powder and heat. Stamp your image using the embossing ink, and then sprinkle your embossing powder over it. Ensure that you tap off excess powder before applying your heat gun to melt the powder, leaving behind your embossed design.

Also known as relief embossing, dry embossing is an easy technique, and it is done using only a stencil and a stylus. You can even do it with just a safety pin or cocktail stick, and this is the perfect option for beginners and children. Just lay your card over the stencil, and tape the corners to prevent it from moving. You can also use a lightbox or a bright window underneath to make it easier to see your desired design. Trace around the edges of your stencils using your stylus. Be firm but be careful not to tear the paper.

Foil embossing is another great one to do with the kids, and while this can be labour intensive, the results can be truly beautiful. Simply lay your foil down and emboss using a cocktail stick or stylus.

If you have a die cutting machine, then use decorative dies to emboss beautiful patterns onto your work. Decorative dies are almost like a sandwich, and all you need to do is to layer the inside with an acrylic plate and cardstock, with the decorative die blade side up. Then run it through the machine, and you have an embossed pattern.
