What type of fabric is voile?

Voile is a type of sheer fabric that comes in a wide range of colours and designs. Voile is usually made out of polyester which makes them an affordable option for curtains and other sewing projects.

Voile is made using a plain weave making them more similar to net curtains. The plain weave allows voile to have a semi sheer look which makes them great choices for curtains if you more ambient light in a space, but would still like to have a good amount of privacy. It also gives the added benefit of blocking a lot of the sun's harmful UV rays. You can also use voile curtains to keep mosquitos and insects out when you want to let in the breeze by opening up a few windows. Because of its light and delicate look, it can add a touch of elegance to any space.

Voile is a very versatile material and can be used for many different types of window treatments and soft furnishings like table cloths. You can use voile to make regular length curtains and drapes, as well as window valances and café - sheers.

Window valances only cover the top portion of a window and are typically used in spaces where there is not enough floor space for regular curtains, like in kitchens and bathrooms where the counters will get in the way of curtains. You can also hang voile window valances over a set of curtains to cover up the exposed curtain hardware and to frame the windows better.

Café - sheers cover only the bottom half of a window and are often used with window valances to provide more privacy while still letting a lot of light in. Café - sheers only drop down to the window sill which also makes them a popular choice for kitchens and bathrooms where space is limited.

When using voile to make any type of window treatment, use heading tape that will complement the fabric and won't be easily noticed. Here at Spotlight, we offer different types of heading tape are specifically designed for sheer fabrics, so don't forget to check those out.
