How do I insert fabric into the hoop?

On the embroidery hoop, you will find a screw join on the outer ring. Unscrew the screw to loosen the bond between the two hoops. Then place your embroidery fabric over the inner ring of the hoop before pressing down the outer ring on top of this. Move your fabric around so that it is placed at the centre of the hoop, with an equal number of excess on each side. Ensure that your fabric is not rippled and that it is pulled taught before screwing the embroidery hoop to secure it into place. A good way to check to see if it is right is to flick the fabric. If it produces a drum-like sound, then you know that it is perfect for stitching on. It is important that you do not overtighten the hoops as this may place too much pressure on it. You may have to retighten the hoop as you are working on your project.

Do you have any embroidery tips for beginners?

Embroidery is a great hobby, and there are a few things to keep in mind when you are starting. First of all, it is always important to wash your hands before touching the fabric or thread, to prevent any stains or oils from getting onto your fabric. Start with an easy project, and work your way up to one that has more intricate detail. Start at the centre of the piece and work your way outwards. We recommend that you avoid using long strands of thread, and do not pull too hard if your thread starts to tangle or knot. If your fabric starts to fray as you are working, tape the edges or use fabric glue to prevent this. If you are not quite sure how the stitch will look, practice on a piece of scrap fabric before you start. Finally, always work in a well-lit space. Needlework requires concentration and focus, and you should not strain your eyes working in poor lighting.
