Do you have any tips for working with glitter?
With the right planning, preparation and finish, there is no reason why glitter should keep shedding everywhere, and if you are struggling with this marvellously sparkly but quite often messy craft medium, then we do have a few tips below for keeping your crafty project looking like tip top. If you do not want the glitter to stick to your hands, then you can apply talcum powder to them before you begin for guaranteed glitter-free fingers at the end of your crafting session. Work in an area that is covered up and easy to clean. You can then sprinkle your glitter onto a tray or into a box, and this will help to keep it all in one place without getting everywhere.
The benefits of using a tray mean that you can also put any remaining glitter that you have not used back into the pot. Crafty glue, or PVA glue, is one of the best adhesives to work with when you are adding glitter to lots of different surfaces, and you can liberally cover the surface in sparkle and shimmer with just one application. Cover the area that you want to sparkle in the glue, with the item in the box or on the tray, and then sprinkle away. Apply liberally, but be careful that glitter is not going outside of your work area. To seal your finished piece, you can either use a spray adhesive or sealant or two-thirds craft glue and one third water solution. Paint two coats of this directly onto the top of the glitter, ensuring that the glue had dried appropriately after each layer.
